Jack P Shepherd would "probably" leave Coronation Street for right role

Jack P Shepherd admits that he would quit Coronation Street after 20 years if the right role were to come along.

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has admitted that he "probably would leave" the show if a better opportunity arises.

The actor has just celebrated 20 years playing David Platt, having joined the soap in 2000 at the age of 12.

In that time David has been at the centre of some of Corrie's most memorable storylines, including Richard Hillman's reign of terror, the murder of his wife Kylie and more recently, an acclaimed male rape plotline.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Shepherd revealed: "If something came up that was too good an opportunity to turn down, or if they stopped writing good stories for me, then I probably would leave. But at the minute they like having me there and I like being there.

"It's interesting to see what [David] is going to do next - that's one of the reasons I've stayed in the show so long.

"The storylines are really varied. One day he's unhinged, causing trouble on a rough estate, and then he goes back to normality, having a laugh in the corner shop or cooking his kids their tea."

David's current storyline has seen him go off the rails after his wife Shona, who is suffering from amnesia, told him that she wants a divorce.
