Tony Maudsley signs a new 12-month deal to stay on Coronation Street as George Shuttleworth.

Tony Maudsley has become the latest Coronation Street star to sign a new 12-month deal to stick with the soap.

The actor joined the cobbles in September 2020 playing George Shuttleworth, the son of the late former character Archie Shuttleworth (Roy Hudd), and has quickly become a fan favourite.

George is in a relationship with Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) and last year saw the introduction of Jodie Prenger as his sister Glenda Shuttleworth, and The Sun says that producers now see him as an integral character on the show.

Maudsley has confirmed the news of his contract renewal on Twitter, showing a clip of Eileen being knocked out by Gail (Helen Worth) alongside the caption: "I only told her I'd signed a new contract and this is what happens!

"I thought she'd be pleased! #RUDE That's George keeping Eyelash on her toes until at least July 2024 and I couldn't be happier."

Coronation Street continues Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
