Sophie Ellis-Bextor is reportedly wanted to represent the UK at next year's Eurovision Song Contest.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor is reportedly in the frame to represent the UK at next year's Eurovision Song Contest.

After an impressive second-place finish with Sam Ryder in 2022, the UK came a disappointing one place from last at this year's contest with Mae Muller in Liverpool.

According to the Daily Mail, the BBC has already begun thinking about the 2024 contest and is considering turning to an experienced hand in the form of 'Murder On The Dancefloor' singer Ellis-Bextor.

"At the moment there is only one artist on the BBC's list for Eurovision 2024, and they don't intend to add to it," a source told the newspaper.

"Sophie Ellis-Bextor is seen as the ideal fit for the contest – she's a great singer and performer, and she is already known to audiences, both straight and gay, across Europe.

"The criticism the BBC has received over the decision to pick Mae Muller this year has been quite savage."

The 2024 contest will be staged in Sweden following Loreen's victory in Liverpool.
