Sky Sports announces a series of innovative enhancements for its coverage of the Edinburgh derby on Wednesday night.

Sky Sports has announced a series of experimental additions to its coverage of the Edinburgh derby in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night.

The game between Hibernian and Hearts - both currently around mid-table - will see Hibs boss Nick Montgomery wearing a microphone throughout the 90 minutes at Easter Road, with viewers able to listen in on his tactical discussions.

Montgomery will also speak live during the game to the commentators at various intervals, while his assistant Sergio Raimundo will wear a bodycam throughout and there will be live cameras in the dressing room pre-game, half time and after the match.

Sky Sports cameras will also be present to capture away side Hearts' pre-match meal at the team hotel, and one of their squad will wear a bodycam during the warmup.

The move follows Sky's EFL 'Innovation Game' last season which introduced similar features for the match between Wycombe Wanderers and Plymouth Argyle in League One.

"We strive to be at the forefront of innovation and continue to explore new ways we can enable fans to get closer to the action with our coverage," said Gary Hughes, director of football at Sky Sports.

"We are delighted to have been able to work alongside Hibs, Hearts and the SPFL, with a joint ambition to tell the story of this hugely competitive derby to our audience in a new and exciting way."

Neil Doncaster, group chief exec of the SPFL, added: "We're really pleased to have been able to work with both clubs and Sky Sports to showcase their latest broadcasting innovations, helping put supporters right at the heart of the action in the Edinburgh Derby.

"It promises to be a cracking game and we're excited to see how the technology brings the match experience even closer for viewing fans."

Coverage of the game gets underway at 7pm on Wednesday on Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Main Event.
