Return of I'm A Celebrity pulls in mammoth audience for ITV

The new series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! begins with a peak of 12 million viewers watching.

The return of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! last night peaked with 12 million viewers, according to overnight ratings data.

The opener of the 20th series - the first to be set in Wales rather than Australia due to coronavirus - pulled in a huge average of 10.9m (52.6%) between 9pm and 10.40pm.

The figure makes the ITV reality series the most-watched non-news programme of 2020 to date and beats the 9.9m (46.1%) who tuned in for an episode of Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway in March.

The peak audience of 12m (53%) came at 9.45pm, while an average of 2.7m (77%) were aged in the 18-34 bracket coveted by advertisers.

Strictly Come Dancing also delivered blockbuster ratings over the weekend, with Saturday night's performances show pulling in a series best of 10.7m (49.3%).
