MGM denies new James Bond film will be sold to streaming service

MGM denies that No Time To Die will be sold to a streaming service after reports that Netflix and Apple enquired about buying the new James Bond film.

MGM has insisted that the new James Bond movie No Time To Die will not be sold to a major streaming service as it continues to await a cinema release.

Daniel Craig's final outing as 007 was originally due out in April but was bounced to November, and then on again until April 2021 amid the continuing restrictions caused by coronavirus.

According to Bloomberg, both Netflix and Apple got in touch with the studio about the possibility of acquiring the rights to stream the movie for its subscribers - undoubtedly for an additional fee - but balked at the price tag of around $600 million (£460 million).

"We do not comment on rumours. The film is not for sale," an MGM spokesperson told Variety.

"The film's release has been postponed until April 2021 in order to preserve the theatrical experience for moviegoers."

The movie had a budget of around $250 million (£191 million) but pre-pandemic could have reasonably expected to pull in three times that amount at the worldwide box office.
