BBC to release more free boxsets on iPlayer

Doctor Foster, Taboo and My Family are among the latest shows to be made available on iPlayer.

The BBC has announced plans to release more classic boxsets on iPlayer amid increased demand due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Last month the streaming service logged its busiest ever day, with a record 20.4 million programme requests on March 23, while last Monday saw 20.2 million requests for shows such as Killing Eve and The Nest.

The new release of classic shows includes Tom Hardy drama Taboo, both series of Suranne Jones drama Doctor Foster and all 11 series of comedy My Family.

"In these difficult times, people are using BBC iPlayer more than ever; to watch the latest news coverage, to learn something new and to sit back and be entertained," said Dan McGolpin, controller of iPlayer.

"It's already the place to see brand new Killing Eve and we're now adding even more choice, you'll be able immerse yourself in hit drama series such as Dracula and Taboo or have a good laugh watching comedies like The Kumars at No.42 and My Family."

The full release schedule:
