Doctor Alex tests negative for coronavirus antibodies

Doctor Alex George reveals that his test for coronavirus antibodies, which determine whether someone has ever had the disease, has come back negative.

Doctor Alex George has revealed that his test for coronavirus antibodies has come back negative.

The new test, which has been rolled out in the UK over the last week, detects whether someone has previously had coronavirus and could therefore potentially be immune from the disease.

Former Love Island star George has been working on the frontline at a hospital in London for the last few months, treating coronavirus patients arriving at his A&E department.

Receiving his results in a video posted on his YouTube channel, George said: "Antibodies were not detected, well that's quite a shock... I don't have the antibody, that's a real surprise.

"I'm quite shocked by that, if you think about it I have been there on the frontline since the start... I've been exposed to hundreds... and seen a large number of patients."

He added: "I'm a bit disappointed, I know that sounds really weird and a bit ridiculous, of course I don't want to have caught COVID-19, but also there's a part of you that thinks I would like to be immune. It would mean I'm a less of a risk to loved ones around me."

More than 39,000 people have now lost their lives to coronavirus in the UK.
