Josh Cuthbert "emotionally drained" after week in mental health institute

Former Union J singer Josh Cuthbert opens up on spending a week at a mental health institute.

Former Union J singer Josh Cuthbert has revealed that he checked himself into a mental health institute last week.

The 28-year-old, who now works as a model and influencer, said that he has suffered "a turbulent and awful year" and realised that he needed outside assistance to get himself back on track.

Opening up to his 425,000 followers on Instagram, he wrote: "Last week I checked myself into 8 days at a mental health institute. It was the toughest, most inspiring and eye opening week of my life.

"After a turbulent and awful year with my mental health I knew a week away was what I needed to hand in my phone, no distractions, no contact with the outside world and actually focus on what was needed to be done on a course that focused primarily on CHANGE. I've barely processed the week myself, I can't even begin to tell you the things I have learnt.

"I needed to go somewhere that was intense and full on because my life has so many distractions. I met friends for life & tools I aim to carry with me forever. I'm now focused on being the best man I can be, the best husband I can be and the best friend I can be.....and most importantly be the happiest version of me.

"I wanted to come on here and let you all know that I'm safe and well.. although emotionally drained haha! I've missed ya!"

Cuthbert married model Chloe Lloyd in August 2018, going on to quit Union J later that year.
