Judge Judy's long-time announcer Jerry Bishop has died of heart disease at the age of 84.

The voiceover artist had provided commentary for the legal show since its start in 1996 but had a career spanning many decades, including a 15-year stint on the Disney Channel prior to Judy.

In the 1960s and '70s Bishop was a popular morning radio host in Los Angeles, while his other credits included voiceover work for Burger King and Budweiser.

In a statement, Judge Judy said: "Jerry Bishop has been the voice of our program for 24 years. Everybody loved him. He had a golden heart and generous spirit. I adored him and will miss him."

Bishop is survived by his three daughters and three grandchildren.
