Prince Charles tests positive for coronavirus

Clarence House confirms that Prince Charles, the first in line to the throne, has tested positive for coronavirus.

Prince Charles has tested positive for the deadly coronavirus disease, Clarence House have confirmed.

The 71-year-old - first in line to the throne - is "displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health" and is now self-isolating at Balmoral.

Charles's 72-year-old wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, has also been tested for the disease but the result has come back negative.

"In accordance with government and medical advice, the prince and the duchess are now self-isolating at home in Scotland," said a statement issued by Clarence House.

"The tests were carried out by the NHS in Aberdeenshire, where they met the criteria required for testing.

"It is not possible to ascertain from whom the prince caught the virus owing to the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks."

Charles last saw his mother The Queen, 93, on March 12 - but both the monarch and her husband Prince Philip, 98, are said to be "in good health" at Windsor.
