Ricky Gervais suggests that he could quit TV and focus solely on stand-up after one more season of After Life.

Ricky Gervais has suggested that he may do one more season of After Life then quit TV in order to focus solely on stand-up comedy.

The 58-year-old has previously created and starred in The Office, Extras, Life's Too Short, Derek and - more recently - the acclaimed dark comedy After Life, which returned for its second season on Netflix yesterday.

Gervais has already ruled out reprising his David Brent character but has now hinted at giving up the small screen altogether.

"In life, you hone down on what you love," he told the Daily Star. "I could quite happily do another series of After Life and stand-up for the rest of my life and that would be it.

"There are so many hours in a day and there are only so many hours in your life."

On the possibility of a third season of After Life, he added: "I am not going to do an unwanted encore. There have got to be loud cheers for me to come back out for a third season. It's got to go through the roof.

"Doing another series is very daunting. It gets exponentially harder to surprise people and not repeat yourself. So people will have to be breaking my door down to do it."

Gervais is due to take his new stand-up show, 'SuperNature', on tour later this year.
