YouTube announces worldwide live broadcast on New Year's Eve

YouTube announces plans for a mammoth live broadcast from five countries around the world on New Year's Eve.

YouTube has announced plans for a five-part live broadcast from around the world on New Year's Eve.

Branded as a "worldwide party", the event will comprise five shows from India, South Korea, Japan, the UK and The Americas as the clock strikes midnight in each of the locales.

Hello 2021: UK will begin at 10.30pm local time on December 31 and feature guests including Big Narstie and Katherine Ryan, with musical performances from the likes of Dua Lipa, MNEK with Joel Corry and Anne-Marie.

Meanwhile, the Hello 2021: The Americas show will begin at 10.30pm ET with all-star guests including Matthew McConaughey, RuPaul and Demi Lovato.

Susanne Daniels, global head of original content for YouTube, said: "With the world ready to move past an extremely challenging year, YouTube will use its global reach to celebrate the hope and promise of 2021.

"We look forward to closing the book on 2020 and throwing a worldwide celebration that our YouTube community can safely enjoy from home."

Earlier today the UK government confirmed that there are no plans for special dispensation on New Year's Eve, meaning that venues such as bars and pubs should stop serving alcohol at 10pm and close by 11pm.
