Paul Mescal felt "objectified" after Normal People release

Normal People heartthrob Paul Mescal admits to feeling "objectified" following the release of the acclaimed drama series.

Normal People star Paul Mescal has admitted to feeling "objectified" following the release of the show earlier this year.

The 24-year-old gained overnight fame and a legion of thirsty followers around the world for his role as brooding Irish youngster Connell in the acclaimed 12-part drama.

Mescal had numerous nude scenes in the show - including full-frontal shots - while his character's necklace has become a viral sensation on Instagram.

Talking to Elle, he revealed: "I felt objectified after Normal People. It's to be expected, given the intimacy of my scenes, but it doesn't make it easier.

"I daren't read some of the intense DMs I receive. But it's not enough to put me off the industry."

Mescal has been nominated for an Emmy Award for his portrayal of Connell.
