Amber Rudd to present programme on new Times Radio station

Former home secretary Amber Rudd will host a programme with her daughter on the new radio station Times Radio.

Former home secretary Amber Rudd is to present a programme with her daughter Flora Gill on the new Times Radio station.

The new service - from the team behind the iconic newspaper - launches on June 29 as a direct rival to the likes of Radio 4, LBC and talkRADIO.

Rudd and Gill's series will see the pair "discuss their different takes on the world and pick up on their popular social media interaction".

Literary editor Stig Abell will host the 6am-10am breakfast show with Aasmah Mir, who left her Saturday Radio 4 show earlier this year, while Mariella Frostrup will front a daily show focussing on arts, culture and social issues.

Restaurant critic Giles Coren, ex-Conservative MP Michael Portillo and columnist Hugo Rifkind have been signed up for their own weekly shows.

"I'm excited to be joining Times Radio, who have already recruited some top political journalists to their team," said Rudd. "It will be a great platform for me to put Flora in her place."

Coren said: "I have been writing for The Times for more than 25 years, so I would have been frankly insulted not to be offered a show of some sort in this exciting and timely move into radio.

"The Friday afternoon slot is a mixed blessing as it'll kill my favourite lunch of the week. But on the plus side I can be in the pub with my week's work done before it gets too packed.

"My show will involve me offering my usual completely wrong take on everything plus a range of brilliant guests not getting a word in edgeways. You'd be a fool to tune in. I mean not tune in."

The station, which will be advert-free apart from sponsorships, will be available on DAB radio and online.
