Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas reveals that she still has a "feeling of terror" appearing on the show.

Strictly Come Dancing's head judge Shirley Ballas has admitted that she still gets "super, super nervous" appearing on the show.

The Latin dance expert joined the Strictly panel in 2017, replacing Len Goodman, and is about to begin her eighth series in the role.

Despite her extensive experience, however, Ballas has revealed that she has a "feeling of terror" before every live show begins.

"My tummy turns over when the music kicks in," she said. "I feel a lot of pressure to make the best show ever for the audience.

"You know, I stand on the stairs, I see the cameras, the crew, and the audience, and I see Motsi [Mabuse] across from me. I blow her a little kiss every week and feel super, super nervous when we're kicking off the first show.

"Then I get in my zone, and it's like I'm in a world championship or something because Strictly is its own little world championship for me."

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, Strictly Come Dancing returns tonight at 7.20pm on BBC One.
