Quiz show host Richard Osman denies rumours that he is part of the upcoming celebrity edition of The Traitors.

Richard Osman has insisted that he is not part of the cast for the upcoming celebrity version of The Traitors.

The House of Games host - also author of The Thursday Murder Club book series - had been linked with the inaugural edition of the hit BBC show alongside other names such as Stephen Fry, Tom Daley and Clare Balding.

Speaking on his This Is Entertainment podcast, however, Osman denied the rumours when asked about it by co-host Marina Hyde but did reveal that he knows some of the celebs taking part.

"I'm not. I'm really not," he said. I'm not even lying - I know some of the name who are. It's going to be brilliant. The casting is brilliant."

Talking about the difficulties of casting a show like The Traitors, he continued: "You want great characters who also have a journey to go on and have hidden depths and going to be fun for people to watch and who are also going to make people talk. You're throwing them into an environment where you know you lose your biggest characters early on - the people you know are going to go on a journey.

"You tend to keep your more mediocre characters - by the way, not mediocre human beings, just in terms of a TV presence - you tend to keep those in later. If I was a casting director, it must be impossible to do."

The celebrity version of The Traitors is due to be filmed at some point in the coming months for broadcast later in the year on BBC One.
