Sinead Keenan is announced as the replacement for Nicola Walker on the next series of ITV murder drama Unforgotten.

Little Boy Blue star Sinead Keenan has been announced as Nicola Walker's replacement on Unforgotten.

In shock scenes, Walker's character DCI Cassie Stuart was killed off in the final episode of series four of the ITV murder drama, which was seen by almost 10 million viewers.

Despite Walker's exit, ITV announced that the show would return for a fifth series, with a new partner being enlisted for DI Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) and the rest of the cold case investigations team.

Keenan will play new character DCI Jessica James, who joins the team as they begin investigating the discovery of human remains at a recently-renovated property in Hammersmith.

Show creator Chris Lang said: "And so it begins, a new Unforgotten journey - and it's scary, for Sunny and the Bishop Street team, for the audience, for all of us.

"But it's also very, very, exciting, and I cannot wait for you to meet DCI Jessica 'Jessie' James, played by the always brilliant, Sinéad Keenan."

Filming of the new series begins later this month.
