Paris Saint-Germain vs. Bayern Munich head-to-head record

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the eight previous meetings between Champions League finalists Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich will lock horns for the ninth time in European competition on Sunday night as the two teams meet in the 2020 Champions League final.

Interestingly, each of their previous eight encounters have taken place in the group stage of the Champions League, and PSG lead the head-to-head record five victories to three.

The French champions are bidding to win the European Cup for the first time, but Bayern have lifted the famous trophy on five occasions, most recently in 2013.

Both teams will fancy their chances of causing issues in the final third of the field, and the contest could ultimately be decided by how each defence performs in Lisbon.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at the eight previous European meetings between PSG and Bayern, with the first fixture between the two clubs dating back to September 1994.

1. Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 Bayern Munich (September 1994)

PSG ran out two-goal winners over Bayern when the two teams met in the group-stage of the 1994-95 Champions League in Paris. George Weah sent the Ligue 1 side ahead in the 39th minute of the contest before Daniel Bravo doubled their advantage in the 80th minute.

2. Bayern Munich 0-1 Paris Saint-Germain (November 1994)

The French giants also ran out winners when the two teams locked horns in the reverse match back in Germany in November 1994. Weah was again on the scoresheet as PSG triumphed, leaving Bayern in danger of missing out on a spot in the next round. As it transpired, PSG topped the section with 12 points, while Bayern finished in second, just two points clear of third-placed Spartak Moscow.

3. Bayern Munich 5-1 Paris Saint-Germain (October 1997)

Having lost their first two meetings with PSG, Bayern managed to gain some revenge when they next locked horns in the group stage of the 1997-98 Champions League. Indeed, the German giants recorded a thumping 5-1 win on home soil, with Giovane Elber and Carsten Jancker both scoring twice, while Thomas Helmer also registered for Giovanni Trapattoni's side.

4. Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 Bayern Munich (November 1997)

PSG made it three wins from their four matches against Bayern, though, by winning the reverse game in Paris, recording a 3-1 victory, with the goals coming from Franck Gava, Florian Maurice and Leroy, while Markus Babbel was on the scoresheet for Bayern. The German outfit still won the group, though, while PSG failed to advance to the next stage despite claiming 12 points from their six matches.

5. Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 Bayern Munich (September 2000)

The two teams next locked horns in the first group stage of the 2000-01 Champions League, and the first match saw PSG run out 1-0 winners courtesy of a stoppage-time goal from Laurent Leroy. Bayern were to have the last laugh, though, as they ultimately topped the section en route to winning the competition.

6. Bayern Munich 2-0 Paris Saint-Germain (October 2000)

Bayern had their revenge in Munich, recording a 2-0 victory courtesy of goals from Hasan Salihamidzic and Paulo Sergio. The Bundesliga giants ultimately finished top of their two groups before beating Lyon, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Valencia in the latter stages to lift the trophy for the fourth time.

7. Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 Bayern Munich (September 2017)

PSG were hugely impressive in their three-goal win over Bayern in the group stages of the 2017-18 Champions League, with Dani Alves, Edinson Cavani and Neymar all on the scoresheet. The French champions actually won five of their opening five group games and ultimately finished top of the section.

8. Bayern Munich 3-1 Paris Saint-Germain (December 2017)

Bayern were 3-1 winners when the pair locked horns in Munich, though, with Robert Lewandowski and Corentin Tolisso (2) on the scoresheet for the hosts, while Kylian Mbappe netted for PSG. The Germans claimed second behind PSG in the group and made the semi-finals before losing to Real Madrid. PSG, meanwhile, were eliminated by the same opposition, who went on to win the competition, in the round of 16.
