Half-Time Report: Chicago Bears on course for second straight home defeat

The Chicago Bears trail the Arizona Cardinals 28-20 at the halfway stage of their NFL encounter at Soldier Field.

The Chicago Bears are on course for a second home defeat from two games this season having gone into half time trailing the Arizona Cardinals 28-17 at Soldier Field.

The visitors made a perfect start to the match when rookie David Johnson collected the kickoff deep inside his own endzone and ran it all the way back for a 108-yard return.

Chicago responded, however, and levelled things up again when Jay Cutler found Josh Bellamy wide open on the left side of the field for the receiver to race into the endzone and complete a 48-yard score.

Back came the Cardinals as they looked to make it two wins from two at the start of the new season, with Jaron Brown collecting Carson Palmer's pass for a six-yard touchdown with a little over a minute left in the opening quarter.

The back-and-forth nature of the scoring continued in the second quarter when Jeremy Langford made his way over the whitewash from just a yard out to restore parity for a Chicago side looking to bounce back from their defeat on the opening weekend.

They found themselves behind once again with just under four minutes remaining in the half, however, when Palmer picked out Larry Fitzgerald with an eight-yard pass for their third touchdown.

Things went from bad to worse for the hosts moments later when Cutler saw a throw picked off by Tony Jefferson, who returned it 26 yards for another score.

Chicago did manage to reduce the deficit in the closing stages of the half when Robbie Gould kicked a 40-yard field goal, but they received a blow when Cutler was forced into the locker room through injury, bringing Jimmy Clausen onto the field.

Gould then added another field goal with just two seconds left on the clock to bring the Bears within eight points at the interval.
