Cleveland Browns opt for Brian Hoyer over Johnny Manziel

Coach Mike Pettine decides against starting "Johnny Football" for the Cleveland Browns for their upcoming game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine has announced that the team will start with Brian Hoyer at quarterback on Sunday.

Pettine was left with a decision to make on which signal caller to go with for this weekend's clash against the Indianapolis Colts, having watched Johnny Manziel replace Hoyer and make an impact during the loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday.

Many NFL pundits suggested that Manziel might finally get a chance to start for the team after scoring a rushing touchdown against the Bills, though Pettine has opted to go with experience over potential for the game with the AFC South leaders.

Via a press release on the Browns' official website, Pettine said: "After thorough evaluation and talking to the staff, we feel Brian gives us the best opportunity to win on Sunday.

"This is a football decision and those are always going to be based on what we think is best for our team. Brian has led our team to a 7-5 record and I'm confident that we can get the entire offense playing at the level needed to accomplish the goals we set at the beginning of the season.

"In my mind, those goals are still very much attainable."

Despite selecting Hoyer as the starter, NFL.com analyst Gregg Rosenthal has suggested that Manziel could emerge from the bench once more, should the 29-year-old struggle for the second consecutive week.
