Mike Pettine has said that he needs to "quiet the noise" surrounding the Cleveland Browns.

The former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator, who was appointed as the AFC North side's new head coach last month, has seen a change to the franchise's general manager during his time in charge, as well as enduring reports that the team almost completed a trade for San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh instead of hiring him.

The 47-year-old told reporters: "That is potentially an accurate statement. I'd like to think it's gonna get quiet. That's my goal, to quiet the noise.

"This is a dream come true. I pinch myself every day. I wake up in the morning and say, 'I'm the head coach of the Cleveland Browns, I can't wait to get work'.

"There's so much negative, I think you can get overwhelmed by it. I don't see it that way."

The Browns have not reached the playoffs since 2002, finishing last in their division for the past three seasons in a row.
