Dallas Cowboys place Tony Romo on IR-return

The Dallas Cowboys announce that they have placed quarterback Tony Romo on injured reserve designated to return as a result of his fractured clavicle.

The Dallas Cowboys have confirmed that they have placed quarterback Tony Romo on injured reserve designated to return.

The 35-year-old sustained a fractured left clavicle in his side's win over the Philadelphia Eagles when he was sacked by Jordan Hicks and Fletcher Cox.

Tests revealed that Romo did not require surgery on the injury, but due to the severity of the problem it will take up to eight weeks for him to recover.

As a result, the Cowboys have placed him on IR-return, which will save them a roster spot but will rule Romo out until week 11 of the campaign.

Brandon Weeden will start at quarterback for the club in Romo's absence.
