Dez Bryant has said that the annual MVP award should go to a quarterback.

The Dallas Cowboys wide receiver was tipped as a strong candidate for the 2013 title by the team's former wideout Michael Irvin earlier this week.

The 24-year-old told the side's official website: "I would be more excited to see Tony [Romo] get it and just know I was a part of it. I think MVPs should go to quarterbacks. They're the boss, the CEOs on the field.

"It means a lot when Michael Irvin says something good about me. It's the history of the number. I look at it as a great challenge to fill his shoes, Drew [Pearson] and Mike. It's no pressure. I'm just having fun.

"We're ready. I can't wait for Sunday night to get here. I just think [Romo] is going to be great. We have a lot of weapons on offense and his job is to get the ball to all of us. He does a good job with that. We're ready."

Bryant recorded 1,382 receiving yards and scored 12 touchdowns for the NFC East side last season.
