Dallas Cowboys release quarterback Kyle Orton

Quarterback Kyle Orton is cut by the Dallas Cowboys ahead of the club's training camp after two seasons with Jason Garrett's side.

The Dallas Cowboys have confirmed that they have released backup quarterback Kyle Orton.

The 31-year-old joined the team in the 2012 season to serve behind starter Tony Romo after his contract with the Kansas City Chiefs ended.

Orton started just one game for the club - in their defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in the winner-take-all NFC East title match at the end of the 2013 season - when he threw a costly interception late in the game as Jason Garrett's side missed the playoffs.

The decision to cut Orton leaves Romo, Brandon Weeden, Caleb Hanie and Dustin Vaughan as quarterbacks on the club's roster heading into training camp.

Orton has thrown for 15,019 yards along with 83 touchdowns to 59 interceptions in his 10-year NFL career.
