Sean Lee signs "fantastic" contract extension with Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee signs a six-year contract extension with the team, keeping him with the NFC East side until the end of the 2019 NFL season.

Sean Lee has signed a contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys, keeping him with the NFC East side until the end of the 2019 NFL season.

The linebacker agreed a six-year deal worth up to $51m (£32.7m), with more than $16m (10.2m) guaranteed.

The 27-year-old told the team's website: "I'm extremely excited. I'm blessed to be drafted by a great franchise like this. To have an opportunity to be here for a long time, hopefully we can compete for Super Bowls, it's fantastic. I'm blessed to be here. I'm very grateful to the [owners] and the opportunity they've given me.

"Obviously I've had injuries and I've said I need to find a way to stay on this field, and the contract is extremely fair. If I'm on the field the whole year, I'll be able to get paid.

"If I do have injuries, it protects the Cowboys and I think that's fantastic, especially with the injuries I've dealt with in the past. Hopefully I'll find a way to be on the field every single year. That's my goal. So I think it's extremely fair."

Lee made 58 tackles, a forced fumble and an interception last season.
