Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has revealed that linebacker Kyle Van Noy's performances in the off-season will dictate his position at the club for the 2015 campaign.
The Lions selected Van Noy in the second round of the 2014 Draft, but a sports hernia injury ruled him out of the first eight matches of the season, while he played a limited role in the remainder of his side's campaign.
As a result, Mayhew has put the onus on the 24-year-old to earn his spot on the roster for next season.
"That's totally up to him," Mayhew told reporters. "He could have a huge role if he has a great offseason and plays great.
"If he doesn't have a great off-season and doesn't play great, his role won't be as big."
Van Noy recorded six tackles for the Lions in the 2014 season after being selected with the 40th pick in the Draft last year.
