Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews may need surgery on a fractured thumb, according to a report.
Matthews picked up the injury when he sacked Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford in the final play of the third quarter of his side's 22-9 victory yesterday.
The Packers are hopeful that the 27-year-old will be able to play on with his broken thumb but have not ruled out the possibility of surgery, according to ESPN.
Matthews was one of three linebackers to leave Sunday's match due to injury, with Brad Jones picking up a hamstring injury, while his replacement, Robert Francois, suffered a torn Achilles tendon.
Green Bay's victory was their second of the season, leaving them with a 2-2 record following their bye last week.
