Houston Texans fire Wade Phillips

The Houston Texans fire defensive coordinator and former interim head coach Wade Phillips after three seasons with the team.

The Houston Texans have fired defensive coordinator Wade Phillips after three seasons with the team.

The 66-year-old spent the last three games of the 2013 campaign as the side's interim head coach after Gary Kubiak was dismissed midway through the season.

Phillips was interviewed for the full-time head coach's position, but lost out to Penn State's Bill O'Brien, who plans to appoint his own coaching staff.

After being informed of his departure, Phillips took to Twitter to thank the team's owners and fans for their support during his time in Houston.
