Chuck Pagano defends Trent Richardson

Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano defends running back Trent Richardson following his disappointing start to his career with the club.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano has insisted that running back Trent Richardson will improve the more time he spends in the club's system.

Richardson has struggled since his trade move from the Cleveland Browns as he has amassed just 411 yards on 139 carries at an average of three yards an attempt.

Pagano told reporters: "It was always a long-term thing. Seventy-two hours after he got traded he was playing in a game for us. But it was never just about today.

"Wait until he has the rest of this season, wait until he has an off-season with us, goes through a training camp with us.

"We've just got to keep it real. It's not an easy thing for anybody, let alone Trent who came in with all the hype that comes from being the third overall pick."

The Colts are 8-4 in their season going into their week 14 clash.
