NFL report: 'Jonathan Martin contemplated suicide in 2013'

The NFL report into the bullying scandal at the Miami Dolphins reveals that Jonathan Martin contemplated suicide in 2013.

The NFL report into the bullying scandal at the Miami Dolphins in the 2013 season has revealed that Jonathan Martin contemplated suicide due to the verbal abuse he was receiving from some of his teammates.

Martin walked out of the Dolphins' training facility and checked himself into a hospital in October last year, and didn't return to the club for the rest of the campaign.

Independent investigator Ted Wells, who wrote the report, revealed that the harassment Martin suffered at the hands of teammate Richie Incognito and others led to these feelings.

He wrote in the report: "According to Martin, the mistreatment by his teammates and his inability to make them stop the insults drove him into depression and led him to contemplate suicide on two occasions in 2013.

"Martin noted that in his four preceding years at Stanford, before he arrived at the Dolphins, he had no significant issues with depression and experienced no suicidal thoughts."

Incognito was suspended by the club as a result of the scandal.
