Report: Dennis Hickey deal for more than two years

New Miami Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey's contract with the team extends beyond 2016, according to reports.

The Miami Dolphins have handed new general manager Dennis Hickey a deal that will last for more than two years, according to reports.

Hickey joined the Dolphins last month after a number of candidates had rejected the opportunity to succeed Jeff Ireland as the team's general manager.

It was initially thought that the Dolphins had only given Hickey a two-year contract, while the usual length for a general manager tends to be three to five years.

However, new reports from ESPN suggest that the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers director of player personnel has been given a contract that extends beyond 2016.

The Dolphins fired Ireland in January following a fifth consecutive non-winning season and were turned down by Nick Caserio of the New England Patriots and Lake Dawson of the Tennessee Titans before offering the job to Hickey.
