Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been suspended until at least the end of the season after pleading no contest to a count of misdemeanor reckless assault.
The 29-year-old was put on probation, fined nearly £3,000 and ordered to serve 80 hours of community service last week in relation to an incident which saw him physically abuse his young son.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced on Tuesday that Peterson would be banned from playing for the foreseeable future due to the incident itself and his apparent lack of remorse.
However, the NFL Players Association confirmed soon after that Peterson would be appealing the punishment.
Peterson has not played for the Vikings since the second week of the season.
