New England Patriots claim AJ Francis

The New England Patriots claim defensive tackle AJ Francis off waivers, much to the surprise and delight of the player himself.

The New England Patriots have claimed Miami Dolphins' defensive tackle AJ Francis off waivers.

Francis was waived by the Dolphins yesterday, allowing the Patriots to claim him having seen an earlier offer to join the practice squad turned down by the player.

Francis took to Twitter to reveal the news and expressed his delight at being given the chance to join the Patriots, although he did admit to being surprised at the news initially.

"Thank you to the entire Miami Dolphins organization for all their support & opportunities for me to show I could play this game. Much love," Francis tweeted.

"I was literally on my way to Special Teams meetings when Mr. Ireland stopped me and told me I was claimed by the Patriots ...Still shocked.

"Thank you to all the dolphins fans for the constant love over the past 5 months... God bless. God is so good man... I'm so blessed for this opportunity."

Francis went undrafted during this year's NFL draft.
