New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has reportedly restructured his contract with the club to give them further spending power in the off-season.
Brady has three years remaining on the contract that he signed in 2012 after he reworked his deal to receive most of his money upfront, while also allowing the club flexibility against the salary cap.
The 37-year-old has changed a clause in his deal to transfer $24m (£15.4m) from a skill guarantee to only an injury guarantee to alter the form in which his contract is distributed against the cap, while the Patriots could also release him without a huge cap charge, reports ESPN.
Brady will receive an extra $1m (£644,000) on his salary for each of the next three years as part of the deal, which will not hinder his side's chances of signing players such as Darrelle Revis and Devin McCourty to contract extensions in the off-season.
The three-time Super Bowl winner threw for 4,109 yards along with 33 touchdowns to nine interceptions.
