Walter Thurmond: 'Calvin Johnson has weaknesses'

New York Giants cornerback Walter Thurmond feels that Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has weaknesses despite his reputation as the best wideout in the NFL.

New York Giants cornerback Walter Thurmond believes that Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has "weaknesses" despite his talent.

The All-Pro is widely regarded as the best wideout in the NFL, but Thurmond thinks that the 28-year-old isn't as quick as he used to be coming out of his route patterns, which will give his side's cornerbacks a chance at turnovers.

"Everyone knows he's a talented guy, you know, but being a big receiver, he has some weaknesses for sure," Thurmond told the Star-Ledger.

"It takes him longer to get out of stuff where the ball is coming in and we can get out and beat him to the route, we've won that play.

"Whether it be a knockdown or interception, that is one of the benefits of being someone smaller than he is. There's always benefits to being able to get out of a break quicker than your man."

The Giants and the Lions face off on Monday in their season opener.
