Pittsburgh Steelers earn first win of the season

The Pittsburgh Steelers earn their first win of the NFL season with a 19-6 victory over the New York Jets to move to 1-4.

The Pittsburgh Steelers secured their first win of the season as they beat the New York Jets 19-6 at MetLife Stadium in their NFL clash.

Both sides got off to a slow start as neither team were able to score on their first drive of the game.

However, Jets quarterback Geno Smith engineered a score on their next possession thanks to some good running by backs Bilal Powell and Chris Ivory, leaving Nick Folk to kick them into the lead with a 25-yard field goal.

Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers responded on their next drive as they overcame long yardage situations on third down twice to move into field goal range and kicker Shaun Suisham pulled them level with a 46-yarder that he knocked through the posts.

The Steelers began to move the ball well and offense and found themselves inside the Jets' 20 again minutes later and on third down Roethlisberger found Antonio Brown in the end zone but the receiver dropped the catch, forcing the visitors to settle for three points from the boot of Suisham.

Just before the break Suisham maintained his 100% record for the day with a 48-yarder to extend his side's advantage to six points, but Smith managed to put his side in range with seconds to go and Folk nailed a 39-yarder to move the deficit back to three.

After half time, the Steelers scored the first touchdown of the game as Roethlisberger fooled the Jets' defense with play-action, allowing Emmanuel Sanders to get deep downfield and the quarterback hit him in stride for a 55-yard score.

Mike Tomlin's side extended their lead as Roethlisberger led another scoring drive after Brown was held back by Antonio Cromartie, which resulted in a pass interference penalty. However, they could not get the ball in the end zone and had to settle for a 32-yard field goal from Suisham.

Smith tried to get his team back in the game late on but he threw a interception into the hands of Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons, allowing Roethlisberger to kneel out for the win.
