San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has insisted that he has not asked for a pay rise or to be given more control over matters within the franchise.

Reports have surfaced suggesting that Harbaugh has fallen out with a number of team officials and players, with some claiming that he had demanded to be made the highest-paid coach in the NFL.

However, the 50-year-old denies those rumours and insists that he simply wants to coach the team as he has been doing for the last three years.

"I don't want any more power. I want to coach the team, and I've never told anybody else otherwise," Harbaugh told Sports Illustrated.

"I see all these reports about how I want to be the highest-paid coach in football. They presume I covet some kind of extension.

"I have never said to anybody that I want to be the highest-paid coach in football. I have never said that to anybody - my wife, my brother, my dad. I make plenty of money."

Harbaugh was linked with a move to the Cleveland Browns last month, although 49ers owner Jed York stressed that the team had "no interest" in agreeing a trade.
