San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman has admitted that he has been impressed with the speed at which running back Carlos Hyde has picked up the club's system.
The 49ers selected Hyde in the second round of the 2014 Draft with the view of becoming a long-term replacement for veteran Frank Gore.
Roman believes that there are similarities between the two backs, and feels that Hyde's quick development will only be a positive for the club heading into the 2014 season.
"I guess, you know, somebody that's 7 years old playing the piano and you kind of show them, they hear it, and then they start playing the piano," Roman told reporters.
"It's one of those things that if you can explain it to him, once it clicks with him – and that's happened repeatedly on a lot of different things – he just makes that adjustment, and we keep moving.
"Carlos gets football, understands football, it's natural for him to understand the game, similar to Frank Gore. And we're seeing those things, and both are very good signs and bode well for us."
Hyde ran for 1,521 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2013 season.
