Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has revealed that the injury suffered by quarterback Kirk Cousins last night has shown "good signs" of not being too serious.
Cousins was forced to limp out of his side's 24-13 pre-season win over the Pittsburgh Steelers with a sprained foot, leaving the Redskins with only third-choice Rex Grossman available at quarterback ahead of the new season.
Shanahan revealed that Cousins will have a scan on the injury tomorrow but insists that the early signs are good.
"They feel like it's mild right now, so that's a good sign," Shanahan told reporters after the match.
"He'll get an MRI tomorrow. But at least it was a good sign with the doctors today."
Shanahan also revealed that Robert Griffin III's participation in the opening match of the season will be down to the doctors as he looks to recover from a knee injury.
