Belarus's Marina Arzamasova wins 800m gold

Belarus's Marina Arzamasova holds on to claim gold in the 800m final at the World Athletics Championships.

Belarus athlete Marina Arzamasova has held on to secure the gold medal in the women's 800m event at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing.

The 27-year-old led for much of the second lap, before Melissa Bishop of Canada and defending champion Eunice Sum tried to come around the outside, but Arzamasova kept herself just in front to finish in 1:58.03, just nine-hundredths ahead of Bishop.

Great Britain's Shelayna Oskan-Clarke was handily placed after the first lap, but faded on the finishing straight to come in fifth, less than a second behind the winner.

The 25-year-old tried to break with 250m to go, but found herself boxed in by Rababe Arafi of Morocco, who finished fourth.
