New Zealand triathlete Nicky Samuels has said that she is hoping for a top-six finish at the Commonwealth Games.
Samuels was originally only named as a reserve for the relay event, but following a successful appeal, she will now compete in the women's individual race tomorrow.
The 31-year-old is ranked 15th in the world, but is statistically the eighth-best triathlete at the Games.
"I'm aiming for a top-six finish," she told 3 News. "Obviously a medal would be awesome, especially for our country and Triathlon New Zealand."
The women's competition will be an open contest, with neither current world champion Non Stanford nor two-time world champion Helen Jenkins competing, and Samuels said that she believes it will give all the competitors hope.
She said: "It's opened up the field a lot more. It's a chance for anyone to get amongst it."
Samuels won the 2013 XTERRA Triathlon World Championship and the 2012 ITU Aquathlon World Championships.
