Syrian hurdler Ghfran Almouhamad stripped of Olympic accreditation

Syrian hurdler Ghfran Almouhamad is disqualified from the London Olympics 400m hurdles event after a failed drugs test.

Female Syrian hurdler Ghfran Almouhamad has been disqualified from the London Olympics 400m hurdles event and stripped of her Olympic accreditation.

Almouhamad finished eighth in the second heat of this year's competition but she has had her time disqualified and her Olympic identity cancelled after testing positive for a banned substance.

"The athlete, Ghfran Almouhamad, Syrian Arab Republic, athletics, is disqualified from the women's 400m hurdles event of the 2012 London Olympic Games where she placed eighth in the second heat of the first round; and shall have her Olympic identity and accreditation card cancelled and withdrawn immediately," the International Olympic Committee said in a statement.

The presence of methylhexaneamine was discovered in Almouhamad's urine sample and her B sample confirmed the findings.
