Great Britain's wheelchair sprinter David Weir is on course for a third gold medal after cruising into the men's T54 800m final.

The Brit, who won the 1,500m final last night, started off strongly out of the blocks and moved into second place after the first bend as Marcel Hug of Switzerland set the pace.

Weir continued to keep up the pressure until Kurt Fearnley of Australia came from the inside lane to launch to the front. However, it wasn't enough to trouble his British opponent, who surged 40m ahead of his competitors to claim the first automatic qualification spot in a time of 1:37.09.

Hug claimed the second qualification spot, while Zhang Lixin of China and Thailand's Saichon Konjen finished first in their respective heats.
