Good evening and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage from day five of the Olympic Games in London.
Four medals are on offer during tonight's session, with Team GB having two realistic chances of claiming the top prizes.
Robert Grabarz goes in the final of the men's high jump, while Lawrence Okoye will attempt to throw big in the discus.
As always, we'll have EVERYTHING covered right here.
9.35pmAs always, we'll have it all covered throughout the day. Hopefully you've enjoyed our coverage today and will join us tomorrow. Goodnight!
9.33pmThe evening promises medals, with the highlights being the men's 110m hurdles final and the women's 200m final.
9.32pmThe decathlon gets underway in the morning, as does the qualification for the men's pole vault and women's hammer throw.
9.31pmTomorrow promises to be just as good, if not even better!
9.30pmAnd that is as far as the athletics go tonight. It's been another memorable evening, particularly with Britain's Grabarz claiming a bronze in the high jump.
9.26pmBack over to gold medal hurdler Pearson, who has been talking to BBC Sport: "It's like a dream right now. I really wanted this tonight. I've worked so hard over the last two years and I couldn't be any happier. I thank everyone for supporting me. It's been an unreal ride."
9.24pmAnd what of Chepseba you ask? Well he finished 11th. I really should stop giving out tips!
9.23pmAmerica's Leonel Manzano took the silver medal, while bronze went to Abdalaati Iguider.
9.21pmGOLD! No not Chepseba, or even his fellow Kenyan. Taoufik Makhloufi of Algeria claimed the top gong.
9.18pmChepseba is at the front with two laps of the track remaining.
9.16pmAnd they're off...
9.14pmWatch him have a stinker and finish around sixth now!!!
9.14pmI'm going to stick my neck on the line here and back Chepseba to win gold.
9.10pmRight, one more final to go this evening. It's the men's 1500m, which includes the Kenyan duo of Silas Kiplagat and Nixon Kiplimo Chepseba. That goes off at 9.15pm.
9.08pmBack over to the field and bronze medallist Grabarz talking to BBC Sport: "I'm over the moon. I got a medal and I'm so happy. It wouldn't have been possible without my mum and my coach."
9.05pmShe's been training in London over the past few weeks and it has really paid off. The rain was lashing down as well - although she'll be used to that having spent some considerable time in the UK this summer!
9.03pmFor the record, Pearson's time was 12.35 seconds. That was an amazing performance from the Australian, who had so much pressure placed on her heading into the Games.
9.02pmShe held off a late challenge from defending champion Dawn Harper to claim the top prize. Kellie Wells took the bronze medal.
9.02pmGOLD! Awesome from Pearson. She sets an Olympic record in the process of taking the gold medal.
9.01pmThe runners are in their blocks...
8.58pmPre-Olympic favourite Pearson goes in lane seven here. Got to say I'm backing her to win gold. She looked really impressive in the semi-finals a while ago.
8.54pmWe have a strong lineup for that race, with the likes of Sally Pearson, Dawn Harper and Kellie Wells all vying for a medal.
8.50pmComing up in 10 minutes, the final of the women's 100m hurdles.
8.49pmGOLD! Germany's Robert Harting takes the top prize in the men's discus with a throw of 68.27m. Silver went to Ehsan Hadadi, while Gerd Kanter claimed the bronze.
8.45pmAfter her win, Richards-Ross spoke to BBC Sport: "I'm having a really good time. I'm out here having fun and hope that I can get a medal tomorrow. My dream has been to be announced as an Olympic champion."
8.43pmThe USA's Sanya Richards-Ross has won the last women's semi-final over 200m in 22.30. Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce took the second qualifying spot. Britain's Abiodun Oyepitan finished sixth.
8.39pmGOLD! Russia's Uhkov takes the top prize in the men's high jump, while Kynard of the United States ended with silver. The bronze went to Britain's Grabarz.
8.39pmGOLD! Russia's Uhkov takes the top prize in the men's high jump, while Kynard of the United States ended with silver. The bronze went to Britain's Grabarz.
8.37pmFelix tells BBC Sport that she is "taking nothing for granted" after qualifying for the final of the women's 200m.
8.35pmMeanwhile, the second women's 200m semi-final has been won by America's Allyson Felix in a time of 22.31 seconds. Murielle Ahoure finished second.
8.32pmBRONZE! It wasn't the colour he wanted, but Team GB''s Grabarz comes away with a bronze from the men's high jump. That's another one for the tally!
8.31pmHere comes Nieto, who hits the bar!!!
8.30pmUkhov clears 2.36m at the first attempt. That could be worth the gold!
8.29pm...but he fails. He's still in position for the gold medal though.
8.29pmHere comes Kynard in the high jump...
8.28pmCampbell-Brown talking to BBC Sport: "I think I executed a decent race and I'm happy. I just have to remain confident and try to put it together in the final."
8.27pmWhile all that was happening, the first women's semi-final of the 200m has been run. Carmela Jeter and Veronica Campbell-Brown qualify for the final from that one.
8.25pmNo! he knocks of the bar. However, all may not be lost. He could still claim a bronze medal if Jamie Nieto fails at 2.36m.
8.23pmFinal attempt coming up for Grabarz. He simply has to make this, or it's goodnight.
8.21pmOUT! Qatar's Barshim is out of the high jump after he failed three times at 2.33m.
8.19pm...but his heals let him down! He clips the bar and that's a second foul. One jump remaining, he has to clear it to continue in the competition.
8.18pmHere comes Grabarz again for a second attempt at 2.33m...
8.18pmThe biggest talking point of those semis has to be the performance of Team GB's Osagie though. What a stunning run from the youngster. Another display like that and he could be in medal contention during Thursday's final.
8.15pmKitum takes second, while Ethiopia's Mohammed Aman wins it in a time of 1:44.43.
8.12pmThird and final men's 800m semi-final coming up. Timothy Kitum goes in this one.
8.11pm...but he just clips the bar at 2.33m. He still has two attempts to get it right.
8.11pmGrabarz now up in the high jump...
8.10pmOUT! Britain's Okoye can only record a best throw of 61.03m from three attempts and as result his Olympic campaign is over. The look on the face of his coach suggests that more was expected.
8.08pmA rather delighted Osagie has been talking BBC Sport: "I'm so happy. It was also unbelievable. Luckily my legs were there. I cannot believe that I've qualified automatically. To come second in that race of a class field, words cannot express how I feel."
8.07pmThat is fantastic from Osagie! He bursts down the home straight to finish second and make the Olympic final. And what a reaction from the young man. You'd have though he'd already won the gold! David Lekuta Rudisha won the race in 1:44.35
8.05pmHe's fifth with 200m remaining...
8.04pmThey're off...
8.03pmWhat a welcome for the youngster from the crowd. Perhaps that may inspire him. Let's hope so.
8.02pmBack to the track and Osagie goes in the second semi-final. He may have his work cut out though as some experienced runners are in with him.
8.01pmMore bad news, this time from a British perspective. Okoye commits a foul with his second throw. His next one could define his battle for the medals.
7.58pmOUT! Defending champion Andrey Silnov is out of the high jump after failing to clear 2.25m. Big surprise, but positive news for Team GB's Grabarz.
7.57pmSudan's Abubaker Kaki wins it in a time of 1:44.51. Very impressive run. Nijel Amos finishes just behind in second spot. Really good race that one.
7.54pmBut now let's take you back to the track and the first men's 800m semi-final...
7.51pmJust across the way in the field Okoye has opened up his push for a medal with a throw of 61.03m. Not bad to start, but he will need to find more.
7.50pmBack to Grabarz in the high jump, who makes no fuss in clearing 2.29m. Good stuff from the young Brit.
7.46pmJust to keep you in the know, Okoye is due to throw second when the discus final gets underway in a few minutes.
7.40pmShortly after Okoye gets underway, the men's 800m semi-finals take place. Britain's Andrew Osagie is among the contenders for a slot in the final.
7.38pmWe're now just under 10 minutes away from Lawrence Okoye going for gold in the men's discus final. He scraped through with his very last throw in qualifying. Let's hope he can build on that this evening.
7.35pmLong jumper Proctor tells BBC Sport that she "really hopes to get a medal". So do we Shara, so do we.
7.34pmUnfortunately for Team GB's Porter, a time of 12.65 seconds from Canada's Phylicia George in that race means that the Brit will not advance. America's Lolo Jones also progresses through.
7.32pmWells wins it in 12.52 from Turkey's Nevin Yanit in second. They both qualify for the final.
7.30pmFinal women's 100m hurdles semi-final coming up. Kellie Wells goes in this one.
7.29pmIt was great technique from Grabarz. That should give him a lot of confidence as the final progresses. Fingers crossed!
7.27pmBack to high jump and a great start for Grabarz, who clears 2.25m at the first time of asking.
7.26pmBritain's Porter finishes fourth in 12.79. That probably will not be enough to reach the final.
7.25pmZelinka claimed the other automatic qualification place, finishing second in 12.66 seconds.
7.24pmWell Harper has some stern competition in the final as Pearson wins that with consummate ease in 12.39 seconds. She really means busy.
7.21pmIn the next heat gold medal favourite Sally Pearson goes alongside Britain's Tiffany Porter. Canada's Jessica Zelinka is also included.
7.18pmAustria's Beate Schrott took the second qualifying spot.
7.17pmDawn Harper wins it in 12.46. She seemed to glide over them hurdles. It will take something special to beat the defending champion in this form.
7.16pmFALSE START! Way too early from France's Reina-Flor Okori, who is disqualified.
7.14pmSo, while we wait, let's take you over to the track and first women's 100m hurdles semi-final. It's just seconds away...
7.14pmIf your wondering where Grabarz is in the high jump, he is up last by virtue of the fact that he qualified with a jump of 2.29m.
7.08pmSome great news coming out of the women's long jump opening round. Britain's Shara Proctor jumps 6.83, which has seen her qualify for the final already. Positive start for Team GB in the Olympic Stadium.
7.06pmJesse Williams of the USA leaps well clear of the bar. Great jump.
7.05pmRussia's Ivan Ukhov of Russia is also safely over. This height is looking a little too easy for the majority of the athletes.
7.03pmKyriakos Ioannou of Cyprus is also over.
7.02pmQatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim up next and he clears 2.20m with apparent ease. Lovely jump and he looks like he has plenty more in the tank.
7.02pmBut not such good luck for his compatriot Bohdan Bondarenko, who hits the bar before landing flat on the mat.
7.01pmWe're underway in the high jump and Ukraine's Andriy Protsenko has cleared 2.20m.
6.57pmSo, what of Robert Grabarz, who is up in the final of the men's high jump shortly. He has a personal best of 2.36m, which if he matches or betters this evening, could see him claim a medal.
6.49pmWe then have the semi-finals of the men's 800m and the women's 200m. The men's 1500m at around 9.15pm concludes the evening.
6.47pmThe semi-finals of the women's 100m go at 7.15pm, with final due at 9pm. Then we have the men's discus final.
6.46pmBritain's Robert Grabarz gets underway at 7.00pm in the final of the men's high jump, before the qualification for the women's long jump starts.
6.45pmEvening all! More medals will be won tonight inside the Olympic Stadium. Four of them to be precise.
12.59pmWe'll be back at 6.30pm for the evening session so make sure you join us on Sports Mole then. See you later.
12.57pmThere's also qualification for the women's long jump and semi-finals for the men's 800m and women's 200m.
12.56pmWe've got four finals - the men's high jump featuring Robbie Grabarz of GB, men's discus throw with Lawrence Okoye, women's 100m hurdles and men's 1,500m.
12.55pmOk then, that's our morning coverage of the athletics just about done. Here's what's coming up this evening...
12.51pmJonny and Alastair have run clear at the front but they're not alone and have been joined by Gomez of Spain, one of the biggest threats for the gold medal.
12.50pmTeam GB have just confirmed that Jonny Brownlee can take his penalty before any of the four laps of his run. There is a box he must stand in to serve the penalty.
12.48pmTRIATHLON UPDATE: The cycling leg of the race has just finished. The Brownlee brothers put their running shoes on and are away! They lead the race but Jonny must serve a 15-second penalty before the end. Just a 10k run separates one of them from Olympic glory.
12.48pmThat's the end of the 200m qualifying then and here are the three fastest losers: Alex Wilson (SUI), Likourgos-Stefanos Tsakonas (GRE), Brendan Christian (ANT).
12.45pmHe says he's "gutted" and feels he's taken someone's place in the team.
12.44pmEllington is now speaking to BBC Sport and admits it's the slowest race he's had all year.
12.43pmEllington, who finished sixth, reacted quickest in the field but just never got going. Takase and Connaughton crossed the line both at 20.72 to qualify.
12.42pmEllington crossed the line in 21.23, one of his slowest runs of the year.
12.41pmJames Ellington is on his knees with his head in his hands! He's finished way off the pace, which wasn't even that quick. Connaughton was leading for the majority until Martina's late charge from the outside lane.
12.41pmCHURANDY MARTINA WINS THE SEVENTH AND FINAL 200M HEAT
12.40pmIt's a green card, meaning none of the athletes have been warned. Strange.
12.39pmNot one of the eight runners has reacted quicker than the 0.1s threshold.
12.38pmFALSE START!
12.36pmEllington will come under pressure from most of the other athletes, with Canada's Jared Connaughton and Kei Takase of Japan perhaps the biggest threats for qualification.
12.35pm100m finalist Churandy Martina of the Netherlands will be favourite as he is the only man of the eight to have run under 20 seconds this year.
12.33pmOne more heat left of the 200m then and Great Britain's James Ellington is in lane six.
12.32pmSpearmon will have been surprised by Quinonez's 20.28, which is a new national record! Spearmon cruised home for second, with Shinji Takahira claiming third.
12.31pmALEX QUINONEZ OF ECUADOR WINS HEAT SIX OF 200M
12.29pmThe qualification for the women's javelin has finished and there are no big names missing from the 12 through to the final, barring Goldie Sayers's exit.
12.28pmHeat six of the 200m is expected to be won by America's Wallace Spearmon. The rest of the field is fairly even and most of the others could nick second or third.
12.25pmSecond and third goes to Antoine Adams of St. Kitts and Nevis and Poland's Kamil Krynski respectively.
12.24pmJamaica are pretty good at sprinting eh? Weir is OK out of the blocks but he blazes away down the straight and finishes with a quicker time that fellow countrymen Bolt and Blake.
12.24pmWARREN WEIR WINS THE FIFTH 200M HEAT
12.22pmFALSE START! Alonso Edward is about to be red-carded. His year goes from bad to worse.
12.21pmPanama's Alonso Edward has the quickest PB in this fifth heat but he's had a bad season. Warren Weir of Jamaica is expected to deliver.
12.19pmApparently Jonny mounted his bike too early, is that possible? Either way, he's gonna have to catch up with the leaders or maybe try and cycle to the changeover and get there quicker.
12.18pmTRIATHLON UPDATE: Jonny Brownlee has a 15-second penalty for a bike mount issue. He'll have to serve that before he starts running and then he'll need to run fast!
12.17pmBlake tells BBC Sport that he, like Bolt, "loves" the 200m. Could be some final.
12.16pmBrazil's Bruno de Barros and Saidy Ndure crossed the line together at 20.52 to both seal their places in the semis.
12.15pm'The Beast' was oh so comfortable there. He eased off way before the line and still clocked in at 20.38.
12.15pmYOHAN BLAKE WINS THE FOURTH 200M HEAT
12.13pmBlake is nicknamed 'The Beast' and he really is a unit.
12.11pmBlake is in lane seven, with next quickest man Jaysuma Saidy Ndure of Norway alongside him in eight.
12.10pmNext up in heat four is the world's second-quickest man over this distance, Jamaica's Yohan Blake.
12.09pmMalcolm tells BBC Sport that it's "always good to get the first one out of the way." He admits that he was nervous, especially under the pressure of a home crowd. The Welshman thinks he's got plenty more speed in his legs and will hope to run quicker in the semis.
12.07pmA huge roar goes up from the crowd as Malcolm finishes second in a time of 20.59. America's Maurice Mitchell won the race, with Michael Mathieu of Barbados completing the top three.
12.07pmCHRISTIAN MALCOLM QUALIFIES FOR THE MEN'S 200 SEMI-FINALS
12.05pmMalcolm has the quickest PB in the field but he's up against Mathieu and Mitchell, who have both recorded quicker times this year.
12.03pmTRIATHLON UPDATE: The British Brownlee brothers are in a leading group of five riders in the second cycling stage of the race. It's a great position for the pair to be in and they're looking good to fulfil their gold-medal dream.
12.01pmGB veteran Christian Malcolm is up next in the third 200m heat.
12.00pmJobodwana took second from Canada's Aaron Brown, who equalled his PB of 20.55 to take third.
12.00pmThe young Frenchman was level with the field at the halfway mark but he stretched out over the last 60m, in the end winning comfortably.
11.59amCHRISTOPHE LEMAITRE TAKES THE SECOND 200M HEAT
11.58amLemaitre is in seven, he sorts out his French quiff and we're under starter's orders...
11.57amExpect Rondel Sorrillo of Trinidad and Anaso Jobodwana of South Africa to be contesting for the top three.
11.54amNext up in the second heat is Frenchman Christophe Lemaitre. He's run sub-20 seconds this year and could nick a medal at these Games.
11.53amBolt admits that's he's been enjoying his 100m success and is glad to be through.
11.52amThe top three automatically qualify from each race and Isiah Young of the United States completed the top three.
11.51amIt's a canter for the Jamaican and he wins it in 20.39 ahead of Brazil's Junior da Silva.
11.51amUSAIN BOLT WINS THE FIRST 200M HEAT
11.49amThe Jamaican is announced to the crowd and he does his usual song and dance. Here we go. Don't expect fireworks, mind, he'll cruise this.
11.49amNo one else in this heat has ever run sub-20 seconds so expect Bolt to boss it here.
11.48amNext up is BOLT. The 100m champion is up in the first of seven 200m heats.
11.46amIdowu adds: "I knew London would put on a great Games. It's my hometown." He finishes by saying that he's been "lucky" over the last four or five years to go to every major championship without an injury issue. Your luck ran out at the wrong time then, Phillips.
11.42amHe tells BBC Sport that he can't remember a performance that bad. He says he felt "okay" this morning and will now call it a day for the season. He expects to have surgery at the end of the year and will look to come back stronger.
11.41amWe're now seeing Phillips walking off disconsolately and he'll be gutted to have had a turbulent build-up end with the earliest of exits. His jump was 14th-longest, 9cm short of 12th place.
11.39amBleasdale ran a PB there and the quickness of the second heat means that Barbara Parker, who ran a personal best in the first heat, doesn't make it through to the final.
11.37amPavey asks if she's definitely qualified and she's told that she has. She's pleased with that and will look to improve on her performance in the final.
11.37amBleasdale tells BBC Sport that she treated that race "like a final" and is delighted to qualify.
11.36amPavey will qualify for the final as a fastest loser, while Bleasdale is there automatically. Great run.
11.35amBleasdale finishes fourth, Pavey seventh.
11.35amBleasdale currently second, Pavey sixth.
11.34amTop five to qualify...
11.34amBleasdale and Pavey are right up there as the second heat of the women's 5,000m hits the final lap.
11.31amThe men's triathlon has also just got underway at Hyde Park. This is one of Great Britain's strongest medal hopes, with the Brownlee brothers from Yorkshire, Alastair and Jonathan, the two best in the world at swimming, cycling and running. Gold and silver are expected.
11.28amI hate to say it but it's been a horrible morning for the British athletes. Two of our stronger medal hopes, Idowu and Sayers, have both crashed out at the first hurdle (not literally, they don't do that event) and there's a bit more a sombre mood inside the Olympic stadium.
11.26amThere's been so much talk about Idowu in the lead-up to these Games and he's failed to deliver. His last jump was improved but fell just short of the distance required to squeeze him into the final. 4cm I think was the amount he fell short but obviously something's not right with a man who we know can jump way over 17m.
11.25amPHILLIPS IDOWU IS OUT OF THE MEN'S TRIPLE JUMP!
11.24amIt's oh so close! I'm not sure if he's made it!
11.23amIdowu is now in 14th and has to produce a good jump here. Big, big moment...
11.21amIt's around half an hour until the first round of the men's 200m, a certain Mr Bolt will be competing.
11.20amIdowu currently lies 12th - the final qualifying position - with one jump to go. I reckon he needs to improve on the 16.47m jump he's already set or he'll be going home early.
11.17amThere's two more Brits in the second and final heat of the women's 5,000m - Julia Bleasdale and Jo Pavey. The top five will go through from each race, with a further five fastest losers reaching the final.
11.13amIdowu fouls on his second jump and he's got one opportunity left to improve his position. He could still qualify despite falling way short of the qualifying distance as the stand of the event so far has been pretty low.
11.12amTiranesh Dibaba wins the round 1 race of the women's 5,000m. GB's Barbara Parker runs a new PB and is given a massive cheer by the crowd.
11.10amIn Group A of the women's javelin qualification, only four women have achieved the qualifying distance of 62m+. They are Barbara Spotakova of the Czech Republic, German duo Christine Obergfoll and Linda Stahl and Martina Ratej of Slovenia.
11.08amPerhaps the happiest man of the 24 to qualify for the 110m hurdles is Selim Nurudeen. The Nigerian ran a PB of 13.51 to finish second behind Andy Turner in the last heat. Well done to him.
11.06amAll the other big names qualified automatically apart from 2004 Olympic champion Liu Xiang, who crashed out as he did at his home Games in Beijing four years ago.
11.04amAnd here are the six fastest losers who have qualified for the semi-finals of the 110m hurdles: Garfield Darien (FRA), Paula Villar (COL), Wayne Davis (TRI), Dimitri Bascou (FRA), Emmanuele Abate (ITA) Richard Phillips (JAM).
11.01amThe women's 5,000m round 1 is underway and Ethiopian 10,000m gold medallist Tiranesh Dibaba is in action.
10.59amSo the 18 automatic qualifiers for the 110m hurdles have been decided and Britain has two men through with Lawrence Clarke and Andy Turner finishing second and first in their heats respectively.
10.57amShe adds that she had "total belief" of being fully fit for the Games but it wasn't meant to be. She says that she'll definitely move on to Rio before breaking down on camera. Poor thing, get well soon.
10.56amGoldie Sayers tells BBC Sport that she may have trapped a nerve in her hand during the warm-up this morning. The Brit is on the verge of tears and says that she's never hurt her elbow and is gutted that it happened in the build-up to the "biggest day" of her life.
10.54amNot a pretty sight as Liu Xiang is wheeled out of the stadium by a London 2012 volunteer.
10.51amAndy Turner tells BBC Sport that he's been struggling for form all year but he's happy to have got that race out of the way. He adds that he's medalled in every single final he's been in, so he's quite confident then! Needs to get to the final first, mind.
10.50amNo apparent injury problems for Idowu but he's way short of the qualifying distance at 16.47m.
10.49amHere's Phillips Idowu's first jump of triple jump qualification...
10.48amIt's a good win for Turner but not the quickest time at 13.42.
10.47amThe Chinese great, Olympic champion from eight years ago, is said to be struggling with an achilles problem and couldn't even clear the first hurdle. Poor bloke.
10.46amANDY TURNER WINS HEAT SIX AND LIU XIANG HAS CRASHED OUT!
10.45amTurner will simply be happy to qualify in the top three here. Is Liu injured at all? Let's see. "On your marks."
10.44amSorry, my mistake. This is Moussa Dembele, the 110m hurdler from Senegal, not the creative Belgian footballer.
10.43amNext up is GB's Andy Turner and China's famous hurdler Liu Xiang. Fulham's attacking midfielder Moussa Dembele also appears to be running in lane one.
10.41amMerritt tells BBC Sport that he was just focused on making it through to the next round. He's happy to have "executed" the race the way he wanted.
10.41amFormer world champ from Barbados Ryan Braithwaite was second in a season's best of 13.23.
10.40amMerritt wins heat four of the 110m in by far the quickest time of the heats so far - 13.07.
10.37amThe 30-year-old tries to launch a third throw but it barely reaches 50m and she grimaces in pain. The Newmarket-born woman, despite setting a new British record just weeks ago, is clearly struggling with injury and perhaps shouldn't have bothered as she may have aggravated her elbow problem.
10.37amGOLDIE SAYERS IS OUT OF THE WOMEN'S JAVELIN!
10.36amOne of the quickest men in the world this year, Aries Merritt, goes in the next heat. The American has run 12.93 in 2012.
10.34amFourie in second produced a season's best of 13.49 to finish second there. Well done chap.
10.33amColin Jackson says that Robles is perhaps the "most gifted" hurdler this planet has ever seen. The Cuban didn't hit a single hurdle there and looked pretty comfortable.
10.33amRobles takes it in 13.33 ahead of South Africa's Fourie and Porter of the United States.
10.31amThe big name in heat four of the 110m hurdles is Cuba's Dayron Robles. The sunglass-wearing world record holder is the defending Olympic champion and he'll be looking to emulate fellow countryman Ortega in winning his heat.
10.29amPozzi tells BBC Sport that he hasn't been able to get his hamstring "sorted".
10.28amThe Barbadian athlete in lane one also took a roley-poley after clipping the top of a hurdle.
10.26amPozzi is out after pulling up after a couple of hurdles. Cuba's Ortega wins it from Jamaica's Parchment.
10.26amGB's Andrew Pozzi goes in this heat...
10.25amBig false start in heat three of 110m hurdles and the Madagascan athlete is shown a red card. OFF OFF OFF!
10.24amSayers has that peculiar coloured tape covering her elbow and maybe there's a big problem and she won't make it through. Sad.
10.23amErm.... This is getting a little embarrassing for the British record holder. She again squeals with anger as she fouls over the line and her javelin barely reaches the first scoring line. What is going on?
10.22amHere's Goldie Sayers's second throw. Let's hope those nerves have gone...
10.21amHere's Phillips and he's sporting a reserved hairstyle. No colour at all.
10.19amClarke will be delighted with second there, only losing out to last year's world champion. Richardson was extremely impressive, he looks really flexible as his left leg pings out over the hurdle. A relaxed 13.33 the winning time.
10.18amRichardson wins it, with Clarke coming through for second.
10.15amGreat Britain's Lawrence Clarke goes in heat two and there's only one man in this race to have gone under 13 seconds, Jason Richardson. The American did it this year too, 12.98.
10.13amQuick Frenchman Garfield Darion just missed out on the top three there. There are six fastest-loser qualifying spots once the 18 automatic qualifiers have been decided.
10.12amBBC Sport's Colin Jackson says that today's conditions are "ideal" for hurdling because of the lack of wind.
10.11amAnd yes, Shubenkov wins it with some impressive hurdling. No stumbles whatsoever. Three to qualify from each heat.
10.10amYoung Russian Sergey Shubenkov is the man to look out for in this first heat.
10.08amAndy Turner goes in heat six of the 110m hurdles and he's in the same race as Liu Xiang. The 2004 gold medallist.
10.06amUh oh! She produces a foul throw and it's wide of the landing zone! Was she nervous?
10.05amHere comes Goldie...
10.04amThe 110m hurdles is also about to get underway with the Round 1 heats.
10.03amBosh! Czech legend Barbara Spotakova launches the spear and it flies miles! That's the longest throw by a long way and is recorded at 66.19m. Ominous.
10.02amElizabeth Gleadle of Canada is the first to threaten the qualifying mark but she oversteps the line and fouls!
10.01amBrazil and Spain have been the first two athletes to go and the throws have been way short of the 62m qualifying distance.
10.00amThe 30-year-old set a new British record in a recent meet at 65.05, the first British woman to reach 65m since javelins were redesigned.
9.59amGoldie is given a huge cheer by the again fully-packed Olympic Stadium as her name is read out. No pressure.
9.57amThe women's javelin qualification is about to get underway and the distance to be achieved is 62m. Goldie Sayers goes in Group A.
9.56amIt's also the first day of Phillips Idowu's bid for a triple jump medal. There's been so much build-up to the wacky-haired Londoner's presence because of clandestine injuries and what not. Let's see if he can deliver in the qualification in just under an hour.
9.53amTherefore we shouldn't be affected by the weather in this morning's athletics session. Raring to go, me.
9.51amWeather-wise, it's a grey day in East London. The forecast tells me that it will stay dry and cloudy until mid-afternoon, with the risk of showers developing later on.
9.46amIn the next hour we have the women's javelin and men's 110m hurdles. Both have a British interest as Goldie Sayers begins her medal quest in the javelin while Andy Turner looks to get off to a good start in the hurdles.
9.44amThe five events due in the Olympic Stadium this morning are:
Women's Javelin Throw - Qualification
Men's 110m Hurdles - Round 1
Men's Triple Jump - Qualification
Women's 5000m - Round 1
Men's 200m - Round 1
