Dina Asher-Smith: 'Competition for Team GB World Championship place is stiff'

Dina Asher-Smith believes that it will be a "monumental achievement" if she is able to secure herself a place in the Great British team for the World Championships.

Dina Asher-Smith has admitted that she has her work cut out if she is to make the Great Britain squad for next year's World Athletics Championships.

Along with Asher-Smith, it is expected that there will be a host of women sprinters vying for a spot in the Team GB lineup, including Jodie Williams, Bianca Williams, Ashleigh Nelson and Asha Philip.

With that in mind, 19-year-old Asher-Smith has conceded that it will be a "monumental achievement" if she goes on to secure her place in Beijing.

"The competition for the world championships in Beijing in August is going to be stiff. Getting selected for the individual events will be a monumental achievement because our sprinters are crazily good," she told The Guardian.

Asher-Smith won 100m gold at the World Junior Championships in Oregon earlier this year.
