Steve Cram has insisted that Greg Rutherford's success is not purely down to luck after he sealed his place in British athletics history with victory in Beijing this afternoon.
Rutherford produced a mammoth jump of 8.41m to ease to long jump gold at the World Athletics Championships, making him just the fifth Brit to complete the grand slam of holding the Olympic, world, European and Commonwealth titles at the same time.
The 28-year-old has been criticised despite his winning jumps in the past, but Cram insists that he is a perfect big-day performer.
"You cannot keep winning gold medals and be lucky. The Americans didn't do it today, but that's their problem. Nobody should even hint that. On the big day he delivered when others couldn't deliver," Cram told BBC Sport.
Rutherford joins an elite list of British grand slam champions, including Daley Thompson, Linford Christie, Jonathan Edwards and Sally Gunnell.
