Nathan Robertson backs England for badminton gold

Team Jersey coach Nathan Robertson backs England to win gold in the mixed team doubles at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Nathan Robertson has backed England to win gold in the mixed team doubles at the Commonwealth Games.

The 39-year-old, who won a gold medal of his own in the badminton event at the 2012 London Olympics for Great Britain, is currently among the coaching staff for Team Jersey in Glasgow.

"My best friend, Mark Constable, who is in the Jersey team, asked me for a favour and I jumped at it. It is only a two-week commitment," Robertson told BBC Sport.

"The players in Jersey are all amateurs. They are full-time workers who only train in the evenings. It was strange to be up against England for once."

He added: "I believe that England have the best chance to win it this year. They seem to have better depth than India and Malaysia."

Robertson was a part of Team England's 2002 Commonwealths squad.
