Nineteen of the league's leading scorer's 43 points in the game came in the final quarter, where the Thunder overturned a 10-point deficit.
Chris Kaman and Wesley Johnson both helped the Lakers, who have just eight healthy players, began the game strongly as they looked to end a run of six consecutive losses at home, but they were unable to keep up with the Thunder in the final minutes of the game.
Durant had looked below par in the first half, missing his first eight shots from three-point range before finding his form later in the game.
The result helps the Thunder extend their lead at the top of the Western Conference, while the Lakers remain fourth in the Pacific Division.
