Latvia take bronze in men's beach volleyball

Latvia's Martins Plavins and Janis Smedins come from a set down to claim bronze in beach volleyball ahead their Dutch opponents.

Latvia's Martins Plavins and Janis Smedins have won bronze in the men's beach volleyball competition with a victory over Reinder Nummerdor and Rich Suil of the Netherlands.

Neither side could build a clear lead in the opening stages of the first set, with some solid defensive play causing long rallies at the Horse Guards Parade.

However, two powerful shots from Nummerdor gave the Dutch a crucial win in the first set to take the lead in the match.

Nummerdor and Suil managed to create a lead at the beginning of the second set but were pegged back by the Latvians as Smedins and Plavins took advantage of some poor play.

The Latvian duo made the most of their slender lead to close out the second set and level the match.

Smedins and Plavins were boosted by their ability to level the match and the Latvians hit top form in the deciding set to win 15-11 and claim the bronze medals.
